भिक्षु जगदीश काश्यप: आधुनिक भारत में बौद्ध-पुनर्जागरण के पुरोधा
Abstract
The questions that Lord Buddha struggled to find solutions to, were contained within the mind of man. For finding the answers to those questions, he chose a path where he sacrificed all the pleasures of life, the pleasures for which men under the cover of ignorance struggles for life. Lord Buddha propounded principles that could simplify the life of man, these principles can be considered as the first effort in the society of that time. The path propounded by him was made exemplary by many people and even after the lapse of about 2600 years that tradition is still followed by the followers of Buddhism. This shows that the path propounded by him are based on logic and mental science.
If we look in the modern context, we can see that Buddhist monks and nuns have played an important role in the spread of religion. Apart from this, the contribution of the householder followers has also been exemplary. In modern times, the contribution of Jagadish Kashyap, one of the Bhikshutrayas, has been incomparable. The contribution of Bhikkhu Jagdish Kashyap in restoring Buddhism to its roots and in acquainting the people of Bihar with the ancient glory of this place has no match. The work done by him to establish Navalanda Mahavihara on the antiquities of Nalanda has emerged as a major center of Buddhist education today.
