Abstract

Every philosophical system (darśana) is goal oriented. There are different spiritual goals in Buddhism, Jainism and vedāntic tradition. To achieve such goals meditation is one of the essential tools. Buddhism and Jainism are non- conformist view of life, i.e.  do not accept the authority of Veda. And accept teachings of their respective religious teachers as final, while Yoga- darśana accepts the authority of the Veda, i.e., philosophical truths as propounded in the Upaniṣads. Common characteristics shared by all these -offer ample scope for comparison. This paper focusses similarities and differences between zen, prabhā dŗṣṭi and yoga meditation.
