Abstract

Karma is one of basic teachings that established the Buddhist soteriology. Although the theory of karma is delivered by most of Indian traditions, it varies according to the viewpoint of each religious tradition. Buddhism has its own meaning of karma when it is interpreted by the Buddha to fit his soteriological approach and training system. Buddhism promotes mental element, that is to say the intention (cetana) as the deciding factor in creating the so-called karma. It also suggests to see the reality with ‘no separated self’ as the gateway to get from the chain of karma and rebirth. The famous slogan is that there is action, but no actor.
